Back Pressure Regulators
Dome Loaded Back Pressure Regulators
All Equilibar BPRs are dome-loaded pressure regulators. A back-pressure regulator is a device that maintains a defined pressure upstream of its own inlet. When fluid
pressure at the inlet exceeds the process setpoint, the regulator opens to relieve the excess pressure. Dome-loaded pressure regulators have gas or air fed into the top (dome) area of the
regulator to provide the pressure setpoint for the process. The pressure of the gas in the dome is set by a secondary standard pressure-reducing regulator called a pilot regulator. The pilot
regulator can be manual or electronic, depending on the application’s requirements. Equilibar sells manual pressure reducing regulators and electronic pressure regulators that work well as pilot
pressure regulators for our BPRs.
Equilibar’s unique dome-loaded BPR design uses multiple orifice technology with a supple diaphragm as the only moving part, enabling frictionless operation without hysteresis or cracking pressure and results in an ultra-wide flow range, typically 100 times industry norms. Its synergistic design offers virtually instantaneous control and unprecedented precision for even the most challenging process conditions.
High Precision
Dome-loaded design uses 1:1 reference setpoint pressure for instantaneous control. Inlet pressure matches reference pressure within 1-2% through a wide flow range –
better than 0.5% in most research applications. Frequently used in industrial test benches for liquids and gases.
Equilibar back pressure regulators, with their ultra-sensitive diaphragm-operated multiple orifice technology, maintain precise pressure across a wide range of flow rates with liquids as well. Below is an example of the performance of an FD Sanitary Series regulator controlling water.
By using several different diaphragms, the same regulator body can be used to control gas pressures from less than 0.1 psig / .006 bar(g) to above 1000 psig / 68.9 bar(g). Designs are available to control down to extremely low flow rates.
The performance curves below demonstrate what is most unique about Equilibar® back pressure regulators (BPRs). The charts show continuous pressure stability across a very wide range of flow rate with both gas (Nitrogen) and liquid (Water) applications.
